How Is Sports Flooring Installation Carried Out for Large Stadiums Like Dau Dayal Stadium?

When you walk into a large stadium, the floor beneath the athletes’ feet rarely gets the attention it deserves. Yet it quietly does one of the most important jobs in the entire facility, protecting athletes from injury, influencing how the game is played, and determining how long the venue lasts. At Dayal Sports, we’ve helped transform ordinary sports halls into world-class venues, and it all starts with the floor.

It Begins with the Base

Before any flooring material is laid, the concrete foundation has to be properly prepared. The base is inspected for flatness, cracks, and surface damage. Uneven areas are ground down or filled, cracks are cut open and sealed with repair adhesive, and the entire surface is acid-washed and cleaned to ensure the flooring bonds correctly. A poorly prepared base is the root cause of most flooring failures, and no amount of quality material can fix what’s wrong underneath.

Moisture-proof polyethylene film and properly cut temperature expansion joints are also part of this stage, essential in large stadiums where the concrete base expands and contracts with changing temperatures.

Choosing the Right Material

Different sports and environments call for different flooring systems. The three most common options for large stadiums are wooden flooring, Silicon PU, and acrylic.

For indoor competition courts, maple wooden flooring is the gold standard. Dayal’s 5-layer suspended flooring system uses rubber shock pads, pine keels, a multi-layer sub-floor, and a 22mm maple surface finished with Bona water-based coating, all built to BWF and FIBA standards. The suspended structure absorbs over 53% of impact force, protecting athletes’ ankles, knees, and spine through intense training and competition.

For outdoor courts, Silicon PU flooring handles the Indian climate exceptionally well. It’s waterproof yet breathable, UV-resistant, and maintains consistent ball rebound and grip across all weather conditions. It’s applied in multiple coats over a primed base, building up to a 4mm elastic layer topped with a textured anti-skid finish with a guaranteed service life of 10 years.

Acrylic flooring is the choice for venues that need both performance and colour. Dayal’s elastic acrylic system layers primer, an elastic rubber-cement blend, levelling coats, and colour acrylic finishes over the base, creating a surface that absorbs shock, resists UV fading, and serves indoor and outdoor basketball, tennis, badminton, and volleyball courts for 8 to 10 years.

The Final Touches

Once the surface is cured, court lines are marked using standard sport dimensions, pattern paper guides, and water-based aliphatic paint that won’t fade or yellow over time. Every completed floor is then tested for shock absorption, surface friction, ball rebound uniformity, and, for indoor venues, air quality, ensuring it meets Olympic and international competition standards.

The result is flooring that doesn’t just look good, it performs, protects, and lasts.
