What Most Buyers Miss in Sports Flooring Warranty Agreements

You finally decided to invest in a new sports floor. You picked the material, checked the price, and signed on the dotted line. But did you actually read the warranty?

Most buyers don’t. And that small mistake can cost a lot later.

Whether you’re buying wooden flooring, PU flooring, acrylic courts, or PP interlocking tiles for your school, club, or stadium, the warranty matters just as much as the floor itself.

What Is a Sports Flooring Warranty?

A warranty is basically a promise from the manufacturer or installer. It says: “If something goes wrong with this floor within a certain period, we’ll fix it or replace it.”

Sounds simple, right? But the details hiding inside that promise are where most buyers get surprised.

1. Not Knowing What Type of Warranty You Have

There are two very different kinds:

  • The manufacturer’s Warranty covers the material itself. If the floor cracks, peels, or fades due to a production defect, this kicks in.
  • The installation Warranty covers how the floor was laid. If it starts lifting, bubbling, or separating, this is the one that matters.
  • Many buyers think they have full coverage, but actually only have one of the two.
  • Always ask for both in writing.

2. Ignoring the Conditions Apply Section

Every warranty comes with conditions. This is the section most people skip.

Common conditions include:

  • A certified or approved installer must install the floor.
  • You must use specific cleaning products only.
  • The floor must not be exposed to direct water or flooding.
  • Regular maintenance must be done on schedule.

If you miss even one of these, your entire warranty can become void. That means zero coverage even if the floor fails in Year 2.

At Dayal Sports, all flooring projects are handled by professional installation teams, which means the installation warranty stays intact for every client.

3. Confusing Warranty Years with Coverage Years

A 10-year warranty sounds great. But what does it actually cover in Year 8?

  • Many warranties are prorated, meaning coverage reduces every year
  • In Year 1, you might get 100% replacement
  • By Year 7, you might only get 30%
  • Ask your supplier for a clear, year-by-year coverage breakdown
  • Don’t just look at the number on the brochure

4. Not Asking About Sport-Specific Wear

Different sports put different stress on the same floor.

  • A badminton court sees fast lateral movements
  • A basketball court takes hard landings and ball impacts
  • A futsal court handles continuous foot traffic and sliding

5. Forgetting to Check the Claim Process

Imagine your floor gets damaged in Year 3. You call the company. They ask you to:

  • Submit a written complaint
  • Provide photos and proof of maintenance
  • Wait for an inspection
  • Wait for their internal approval

This process can take weeks or even months. Many buyers never even knew there was a formal process to follow.

6. Overlooking Defects vs Damage

Warranty covers manufacturing defects. Damage caused by misuse, accidents, or poor maintenance is usually NOT covered.

For example:

  • A crack from a dropped heavy object? Not covered.
  • A bubble is forming because of moisture from below? Possibly covered, depends on the warranty.

Getting Everything in Writing

Verbal promises don’t count. If a sales rep tells you something is covered, get it in the written warranty document.

This is especially important for:

  • International Olympic standard certifications
  • Specific performance benchmarks like ball rebound or shock absorption
  • Free maintenance visits in the first year

Dayal Sports backs its products with international and Olympic-standard accreditations, and everything is documented clearly, because Dr. Yuva Dayalan built this company on transparency and trust.

8. Skipping the Maintenance Clause

Here’s a hidden trap many buyers fall into. Most sports flooring warranties require scheduled maintenance to stay valid. This might mean:

  • Cleaning with approved, non-abrasive products
  • Annual professional inspection
  • Re-coating or re-sealing at certain intervals

If you skip these steps even once, some warranties allow the manufacturer to walk away from any future claims.

9. Not Comparing Warranty Terms Between Suppliers

Buyers often compare price per square foot but forget to compare warranty terms.

  • Supplier A may offer a 5-year full-coverage warranty
  • Supplier B may offer a 10-year prorated warranty
  • On paper, Supplier B looks better
  • But a 5-year full warranty may actually protect you more in the years you need it most

Always compare:

  • Coverage percentage per year
  • What is included vs excluded
  • Claim process speed
  • Availability of the service team in your city

10. Assuming All Flooring Types Have the Same Warranty Rules

They don’t. Every floor type has its own warranty conditions.

  • PVC/Hova courts have different durability characteristics than PU flooring
  • Artificial turf warranties depend on pile height, infill, and UV stabilization
  • Wooden flooring warranties are sensitive to humidity and load conditions
  • Ask separately about warranty terms for each floor type you are considering
